Hi,

the stamp is missing any letter or figure, so it's really hard to identify for me. I was told it may be from Mauritius, and the edge is similiar to other stamps from the country.

Could you please help to identify proper country and age?

Thanks.

Hi,
this is a newspaper stamp from Austria (not Australia!) used in the years 1867 to 1880 - if it is no fake. The colour you say is brown, so if the stamp is real, it has darkened quite a bit. It should be violet.

Many thanks Heinz. Do you know what value could be in unused condition?

Minimal value of a few cents at best. These are very common and found in almost every collection.

Although of no monetary value, if you do wish to store it, make sure it's in a flat and dry place. These, like many older stamps of Austria (and Hungary) tend to fold into tiny little crumpled balls if left loose in a box, especially humid/damp places.

Specifically this is a Type III of this issue. This type, unlike Types I and II shows the outer white circle around the helmet open at the top. The other two are closed.
Issued 1876. The gentleman in the winged hat is Mercury.
