Hi,

I just required this Bavaria stamp, 1849 Michel #4I, Scot #3 (too bad about the crease, but I knew that when buying) :

Michel (Spezial Catalog 2011) lists a plate error "4 I PF II", where the Y in Bayern has a thickened foot (lower right part).

That IS what I see on this stamp: the lower right part of the Y is broader than the middle part of the Y:

Searching pictures of other 6Kr stamps on the web, I cannot really confirm nor deny this is indeed that plate error.
Does anyone have a sample of the 'official' plate error 4 I PF II ?

Would be great !

Does the paper have silk thread in it? This stamp has a couple indicators that it might be a forgery.

No, I was indeed missing the silk thread !

Very observant of you. I found the colors already a bit odd. Like water colours were used.

What indicators do you see ?

There are common forgeries of several early Bavaria issues that are commonly canceled with the Passau half-circle. They also bear a "FAUX" overprint.

It appears that this is one of those forgeries, but someone has subsequently added a second "cancel" to obscure the word "FAUX". Also, with those forgeries, the "K" and "R" are farther apart than they should be, and the bottom of the "U" is round.

Thanks for the info!

Luckily I did not pay too much for the lot including this stamp.

I find this rather interesting, seems like quite a good job on forging this stamp.
