I tried using StampManage but I lost interest in trying to keep it up and was frustrated by its limitations. Now I just Bento for Mac as a simple database, with lots of pull-down options. |

Unless you create your own, Stamp-manage is the best commercial one. IMO. I've been using it for 10 years and have an absolute blast with it. It accesses my scanner directly, and ebay and other reference sites. No database is gonna be easy, per se. I've gotten to where I can enter a new US mint with minimal clicks. |

I have been using EzStamp version 7.77 for probably 5-6 years. It works well and has been very reliable. I am preparing to upgrade to the latest version which has a much larger database then my current version. But before EzStamp came into my life I tried many different databases and stamp programs to track my collection, none of which passed the test of time.
At this point I have never been able to get my entire collection counted in the system and I doubt that I ever will. But I have finished some of my larger country collections. Then you can get an idea of how much value there is in the entered collection and, if you enter the data, how much you spent on obtaining it.
One of my favorite uses is to prepare want lists and so forth. Support is nothing less than top notch and is probably the best customer service I have received with any product I have ever bought. It does come with current catalog values, which don't mean that much to me as I'm not in it for the money. But it is nice to get a gauge of the value of particular items. The web site allows a free download of the complete program so you can get an idea of how it works. At this point, in my opinion, there is no competition out there for EzStamp. |

I use excel and have all the information required in it. Not as slick as some software, but pretty simple and easy. |

There's a video on YouTube showing how a major collection has been catalogued by the owner without any purchased software. It's a lengthy video, almost 45 minutes long, and a search on YouTube for "Keith Stuppel" should find it - he's the collector and the presenter.
He's been using the same method for at least 30 years to search his hundreds of albums without any difficulties, and makes heavy use of hyperlinks to make it quick and easy to bring up any part of his collection using a laptop at shows.
There's also probably a link to the video available on the APS web site. |

Hiya Paul!
I'm guessing you don't do much to track your massive collection on a computer. Too many entries to make when you buy large lots.
And after all, our best organizational tool is our albums themselves. But I'm guilty of being what you call a "Tupperware collector" myself, with too many items put away temporarily, waiting for winter or some other opportunity to get them properly described and mounted. |

I'm another stamp collector that votes for MS Excel. It works fine for my stamp collection inventory needs.
I haven't yet used it much, but I recently downloaded Apache Open Office 4.0.0. It's freeware and contains all of the basic word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database programs, albeit with somewhat less features than MS, but so far it seems to work quite adequately for my needs. |
