I just added the stamp on the left to my album it is Scott 411. It appears that the 2nd line of the overprint has shifted to the right. I have never seen this variety and it is unlisted in Scott. Can anybody shed any light on this? Much thanks!
I don't think the overprint shift is anything more than an anomaly. I just went through a stock book of these stamps and came up with several that contain the overprint shift as in the example below:
now I am really stumped! your shift looks just like mine - both unlisted in Scott. were these overprints done all at once on an entire sheet? if so, perhaps we have a variety!
is there a Philippines specialized catalog anywhere?
If I remember correctly these overprints were typographically produced and in the process of making up a cliche to print multiple stamps it is not unusual to have some minor variety in the settings/spacings. Now if these were two different fonts or sizes, Scott might notice.
Ponso1, I do not collect these Philippines stamps. My interest lies in the US Transportation series, and I do collect these specialized. But if I find an overprint variety like yours I would be very excited indeed. I have a website for you in regards to your question about a specialized catalog for the Philippines: www.philippinestamps.net/AboutTak.htm I hope this will help some?
