This cover was in a group of several hundred covers that were a part of a collection recently purchased. I do not collect covers but this CAM-9 crash cover left me with some questions and any help/input would be greatly appreciated.

It appears that this cover went down, with the pilot (Elmer Partridge ) losing his life, during the first flight. But on the reverse there is a RMS post mark with a 20th Century Limited cancellation. Were all covers placed on train or just some of them? Was this a response to the crash or a part of the normal route? Any input as to the value is also welcome.
Thanks in advance
