BeeSee placed an image on the "Superman" thread showing an array of Hardy Boys' books on his book shelf, which evoked some great memories for me. As a kid I read every Hardy Boy book that was in my village library. This library was a special place for me and became more so when, later in life, I learned that it was a Carnegie Library. It may surprise many of you that Carnegie Libraries existed in Canada but they have a sporadic occurrence across the country. One of my claims to fame is that I have been in most of them.

Canada issued one Carnegie stamp that I am aware of, namely, the Victoria Public Library (BC) issue shown below:

Canada Scott#1378 Victoria Public Library

Are there any Carnegie Libraries depicted on US stamps or any other country for that matter?

In response to your inquiry, you can call it "cheating" but this web page is probably what you're looking for:

wt1: gosh - I guess I posted that in a "heated rush" as they say. If only I had googled first. Is there anything more that you can relate to me or us as to what would "preclude honoring a single public library on a postage stamp"?

Given the paucity of Carnegie Library stamps I might as well put an image of the man himself on here:

United States Scott#1171 4c Andrew Carnegie 1960

Scott describes this stamp colour as deep claret. The USPS describes it as maroon.

Have you been in the Carnegie library in Saint John, New Brunswick? Looks a lot like the one in Victoria. Served as the municipal library until about 1983 and was then converted to the Saint John Arts Centre - a gallery, quasi-theatre and meeting space for members of the Saint John arts community. Has been much development around the building in the last couple of years so it is now at the centre of a new city plaza.
