Can someone explain how the German catalog list both Eastern Silesia {which was Czech .} and how it list Upper Silesia {which was German } does it combine both or are they separate .Also can someone with a S.G. or other catalog ,tell me how its listed....thanks
Upper Silesia plebiscite can be found on Michel Germany, whereas the Eastern Silesia is listed under Czechoslovakia in one of the Michel Europe volumes.
It's the same in the SG catalogues: East Silesia is in Part 5 (Czech Republic, Slovakia & Poland) and Upper Silesia is in Part 7 (Germany).
East Silesia had recently been Austrian, then was occupied by Czechoslovakia and then split between Poland and Czechoslovakia.
Upper Silesia had recently been German and after the plebiscite was split between Germany and Poland. Since 1945 the whole area has been in Poland.
Almost all of the historic region of Silesia is now Polish apart from the eastern part of Lower Silesia which remains in Germany and the former Austrian Silesia (the "East Silesia" of the stamps) which is in the Czech Republic.
