This may seem like a tv program about "people who walk among us". My primary stamp interests centre on old classic engraved stamps. I'm not, however, above appreciating some photogravure stamps. One of the characteristics of the photogravure process_is layered depth, which provides a three-dimensional aspect (i.e., relief) that is especially apparent on the multi-coloured stamps. The result when viewing such stamps with a good light, a magnifying glass and both eyes wide-open (i.e., no squinting) is not unlike using an old "viewmaster". It takes some practice and not everyone will be able to do it but it adds an extra dimension to one's stamp appreciation experience.
Below are examples of three Australian stamps that you may have in your collection that you can practice with. I did not pick them specifically for this - they just happened to have been on the top sheet of a musty old collection that had been given to me and which I had placed outside at -30c for a week this past winter to get rid of the odour. Check your collections for even better ones and put them here if you are so inclined.
