Thanks Battlestamps for your message.
But what are covers?
Are those the same as the First day issues...?

Greets, Rik

Hello,

Covers are envelopes or lettres (French), with stamp(s) or franking (postal marks indicating payment of the carraige fee - post carrier) on them.

At the beginnings of Post Offices post riders on horses would carry the mails from one Post Office or house or building to another. The letters written (missifs) would be covered up by a cover piece of paper with the address or name on it and then sealed with wax usually. Or not if the money was not available I imagine.

To open you would break the seal and then read the inside of the covering (cover) paper or/and also the indide enclosures of other pieces of paper with more writing upon them (if more were enclosed).

The marks of '2' or '3' or whatever numbers were to be paid by the receiver of the mail or post. the mails or posts were guarded sometimes.

Lots of fascinating history and tales go along with the postal services around the world.

Hi rikdegraaff

I find that once in a while I just switch what I'm doing. I find that soaking off stamps for 3 days is about as much as I can handle at a time.

I find that working on 2 or 3 countries at a time keeps it fun for me. I'll work on a country for a week or so and then set it asside and work on another. I have barely looked at my stamps since spring because I work at a garden centre as well as work on my own gardens. But tonight I plan on breaking out my Canadian Collection

What about joining or starting a stamp exchange? That way you are getting more stamps that you don't have to soak? Also you can do that from your home just using email and the mail. Maybe you can even find someone who will soak your stamps for you but they get to keep some?
