Hi, Most are USA, from the late 30s thru 50s. The others appear to be Chinese/Japanese. The USA stamps are very common (among collectors) and I suspect the others are as well. |

Hi again, I apologize for not first welcoming you to the forum. Stamp collecting is a wonderful life long hobby and "all are invited". The foreign stamps are Japanese - at least those I recognize. But, to collectors they are fairly common.
I do hope you decide to enter into the collecting, and this is a good spot to get guidance. |

Welcome! I agree with mobilman that most if not all are quite common. One thing I did notice: there is one Austrian stamp among the Japanese ones. |

you got one Austrian and one Chinese stamp{ orange stamp at the bottom of the page with the overprint }. Some of the Japan stamps have a better value due to having postal usage cancels and not the more common roller cancels .I like that Council Bluffs ,Iowa precancel but I don't collect precancels or know much about them .Oh !! welcome to the chat room ,hope you stay around to learn more . |

Why did you buy the stamps?
If you were looking for a quick profit in a garage sale then at least from the USA stamps you lost. You have a decent start to a USA collection. However from a money stand point nothing more than a dollar or two.
Maybe others can give a opinion on the foreign stamps. |

These aren't all of them....the garage sale was also a benefit for someone's daughter so I bot a lot of stamps and some comic books for one hundred USD. I also have some first day covers; just have taken the pics yet. |

It sounds like it was for a good cause. I hope you find something if not maybe think about collecting. Based on the condition of the stamps and the way they were collected I would say you have a regular home low value if any value stamp collection as far as money goes. However you never know. |

It's all good....even if each stamp I have in this one book only sells for 2 each...I make more than my money back :) |

Hi Givelify, I want to welcome you also to SCF- lots of folks here to help newbies.
Also don't want to give you any illusions that you could sell any of the US material you've posted for $2 apiece. If they were unused with full gum, you can't even sell these stamps for face value. Dealers will give 50% of face value or less. You probably couldn't get $2 for all of the US shown. And First Day Covers are very collectable, but if from this time period, are also very common with very little value. Sorry, and hope you enjoy collecting! Ray |

I see some Canada, Israel, Hungary, India, Thailand, Singapore, Aden, Australia, Jamaica. In case you are wondering what a precancel stamp is; they are the US stamps having a city and state name printed between two parallel lines. I really do not know about stamp values other than the US stamps and for these I concur that they are worth only one cent to a few pennies each. The torn ones you have are usually thrown away. Whether or not there are any stamps of high value would be a bonus to your commendable act in purchasing these stamps to help the girl. (yes, to your question about "common", common means little or no monetary value) |
