Hi,
Well, I've searched and searched and cannot locate these two stamps of Chile anywhere. Perhaps you can help identify what they are are the year issued/used............

- A 30x32 mm vertical stamp done in shades of brown. The top on a curved banner is "telegrafos del estado". The center is an oval pic of horses/people around a shield which has a star in the center. Under this is a curved banner "Un Peso". At the bottom left and right sides is a boxed in "1", and between them in a fancy banner is "Chile".

- A 25x30 mm vertical stamp done in bright blue and white. The top reads "Correos ? Chile", and under it in smaller print is "Bicentenario de Paica". Note my spelling may be a bit off because of cancellation marks.

The line under is "1742 provehit soli leo 1942".

At the center of the stamp is an ornate shield with a lion holding a flag mast. On the bottom in each corner is "10", with "centavos" between them.

I apologize for the lack of pictures, and do hope my description will make it easier for identification.

Thank you!

Well, I figured out the blue one being a 1942 bicentennial celebration stamp of Talca (city, event ?).

The telegraph stamp is apparently not all that unusual, and comes in different denominations, but what time period is it from?

Yikes, I found the telegraph stamp. The one I have looks like it just came from the PO, so I "assumed" it was mid 20th century. WRONG, it is from 1902-1904! Amazing.

Thanks all!

Thank you Jorge!
Those are the stamps in question, and I thank you for the interesting information.

When I got back into worldwide collecting I purchased at auction a number of Scotts albums - most of which were auctioned by the heirs of the original collectors. The majority of these collections were not "picked", and I ended up with a number of unusual stamps that are difficult to identify as to what they are and when they were produced.

I've narrowed those down to perhaps 200, and am going through them country by country and finding the proper home for them.

Thank you again,

Mobilman44
