Dude - are you attending? I would be really interested in FDC's or anything else they have there. I'd gladly pay for whatever you can get duplicates of. I've started accumulating material to put on the upcoming (February) APS Lincoln mini-collection pages.

BTW, I got that SSM article in the mail to you Monday.

Swabbie you salty sailor,
I am hoping to attend. I still have to clear it with my boss. If I had my way I would take the day off and get unofficial postmarks at as many postoffices as I could, but that will not be possible. I am still debating as to making arrangements with postmasters in various towns in advance. If the event is like other FD ceremonies I've been to I will only be able to get 1 first day ceremony program and 1 item signed by the honored guests. Plus if Obama attends I more than likely won't get in. I will be talking to our philatelic clerk about making postmark arrangements. Plus the Springfield Philatelic Society will be having a cachet cover & pictorial postmark for February 12, 2009 to purchase. I will see what I can do for you.

thanks for mailing out that article I really appreciate it.

greg,
I received the article today. What a great cover it arrived in. I knew immediately I had received mail from another collector. Thanks for the color copy and 3 hole punch. You went above and beyond.

There will be 1 b/w pictorial FDOI postmark and 4 digital color FDOI postmarks for the Springfield IL event.

I know that Lincoln, NE is planning a FDOS pictorial postmark & cover sponsored by the lincolnstampclub.org. The Tucson Stamp club in AZ is also having a FDOS pictorial postmark & cover set.

If anyone knows of any others please post them or send me an email.

I would like to travel to this event from Chicago , have been to several First Day Ceremonies , EID , FERMI ,Carnivorous Plants ,Madonna and child ,Quilts.
Travel time is 3 hours 15 minutes leaving the house at 6am, looking forward to the event.
I wish the U.S. Mint could be at the event offering some of their one cent new designs or silver dollar commemorative http://www.coinnews.net/2009/02/02/...s-mint-4679/

jayelem,
Welcome to the group. I know that the mint will be in Hogdenville KY on the 12th, just keep going after the ceremony on monday. I should be at the event around 9 am, there's limited seating and the USPS "store" will open at that time.

Here are a few more honored guests: John E Potter-Postmaster General; Jo Ann Feindt-VP, Great Lakes Area USPS; Thomas F Schwarts, IL State Historian; and Jan Grimes, Director IL Historic Preservation Agency.

They are expecting approx. 200 attendees and are planning to have an autograph session if time permits.
