Hi!
I've got two Columbian stamps, both of the same image - one being 1 centavo in faded green, the other 2 centavo in faded red.

They are horizontal stamps, 25 x 23 mm, and depict an atlas drawing of the country - with "antillae" on the Atlantic Ocean and "pacifico" on the Pacific ocean. The very top of the stamps has "Columbia" straight across, and on the bottom is "Centavo(s)" straight across.

Above "Centavo" is the denomination - a 1 or 2 in this case.

I've gone thru ebay, a 2003 Scotts Cataloge and a 1955 Scotts cataloge and can find nothing with a map.

As always, your help is greatly appreciated!

Thank You !

Hi,

These are early Panama stamps when Panama was still a department of Colombia.

Mobilman, if you have a US catalog go to the section on the Canal Zone. I have a feeling the first Canal Zone stamps look like yours but with the overprints!
Your stamps are Columbian. Panama overprinted them when they became independent in 1903. Later the US overprinted them again, now for use in the Canal Zone!

Check Panama Scott#15-16. I presume this is what you have.

My goodness, they are Panama stamps and are in the Scott's Panama section - both from the early 1890s.

Two things to add...........
Thank you all so much for your help. In my work life (retired in 2006), I was the "guru" that folks came to for information. So it pains me to ask for help as I try very hard to find the answers on my own. Thank you!

The "ifs, ands, and buts" of identifying stamps just never ceases to amaze me. Having stamps clearly showing "Columbia" and falling into the Panama section is one of the more notable examples to me. While this can be frustrating, it sure keeps the hobby interesting.

Thank you all again,
Mobilman44
