My Scott's doesn't help too much with the 1905-1919 issue, other than a statement that Scott 81-95 are available in the Wartime Printing ("Stamps with dark colors, indistinct impressions, yellow gum") and the Pre-War Printing ("Stamps with bright colors, sharp impressions, high quality - often surfaced - paper, white gum").

Here are my 30 pf stamps that look similar, but not quite. the stamp is described as Orange and Black, but the right-hand stamp definitely has a bit of red, and a much darker / rougher black. Not much value, but I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Hello Partime
My SG Germany Part 7 from 2007 has the watermarked 1905-21 issues as SG89 30pf black and orange on buff paper, and SG89a 30pf black and orange on cream paper. Nothing mentioned about different printings with regard to shade. I guess the paper colour could make the front of the stamp look different shades. I have noticed that many of the Germania types seem to have more shades than in my catalogue (probably time to get an up-dated version!). By the way, the non-watermark version from 1902 is down in my catalogue as black and orange on rose paper.
Hope this helps a little.

Michel lists three paper colors (if I read it correctly) White, Medium yellow, and orange-white.

I worked on collecting a sizable number of the 1 mark stamps to find the different printings and perforations. I never worked on the lower amounts. Dating the postmark was helpful. Also having 90 or so to sort by shade. Using paper color can be tricky. You have to consider heat damage, bacteria, and color leaching when soaking.

Since I just got a new SG catalog, I'm discovering some small things which Scott neglected to include. Here, I also have a 75 pf version from 1920 with the new colors (purple or red violet, depending on catalog). SG tells me that there are two plates for this item, I and II. Although the centering on this looks good, the top crown of Germania is definitely lacking. I believe this is a Plate I, which makes it considerably more valuable (though there is a thin on an upper corner).
