Postcard From France... No Postage?

This Postcrossing postcard arrived the other day, and it had no postage at all, just a cancel. I'm wondering how it got all the way to the US without postage. The card is actually an ad card, which is a let-down. Does France have some rule about mailing ad cards or something? Or did the card just plain slip through the cracks?

I don't know about the stamp.

But, what is an ad card from France? A French word?

ADvertisment postcard, instead of a "real" postcard. Many Postcrossing members don't like them because they are generic and often handed out for free.

Perhaps the card went through he machines behind another card that did get the cancel on it.

Is there any nice picture or lettering on the card?
