Hello SC Family,
I've collected Canadian stamps over the years and have learned what I know over trial and errors. Now that I solely focus my collecting on Canadian material I was wondering what good books and guides are out there to help me find rarities and such. I'm always impressed with this communities knowledge of what stamp was used on what type of paper, number of perforations, etc. Is this just a trail and error just as I've learned what I know or can someone point me to a good group of specialty guides. Thanks in advanced.

Joe

To start, you want an Unitrade catalog. I got a nice recent one from Amazon for a decent price.

WOW Thanks Battlestamps! This is the exact kind of guide I was looking for. They have the 2012 used and in good shape for around $26 on Amazon. Is that generally a far price or should I spring for this one? http://www.canadapost.ca/shop/stamp...ecution=e1s1
Thanks,
Joe

You can get older versions for a lot less than that.

FvH Stamps

I bought a 2012 for $14 from Frank.

At CSDA stamp shows, I have gotten the Unitrade Canada specialized catalogue directly from Unitrade there in new condition for the 2011 edition for $5.00 CDN and the 2012 edition for $15.00 CDN. I tend to collect these catalogues as well as use them too. The 2014 edition is just coming out while the 2013 edition had sold out.

Thank everyone! :)
I have a show coming up in the next few weekends. It's the Ann Arbor, MI show. It's small, but I love it. Anyone from the family attending this show in the first weekend of November?

Hi Joe, Unitrade has a great selection of specialty references on their website. Enough to keep you reading up on the subject for years!

I keep an eye out at the local library for older unitrade or scott catalogs they are getting rid of. I picked up a Uni 2009 for $2. It helps to chat it up with some of the staff and make friends, then have them put goodies aside for you ;) I do this at the library and at my local PO.

Hi, the 2012 Walsh BNAS catalogue is about as good as it gets. It lists in detail all British North America except Newfoundland. You can see it
here: http://www.newfoundlandstamps.com/

His Newfoundland guide is super too!
