Has anyone ever addressed the high cost of these pages lately? I know they are a quality product but to compile a set of them for most any collecting area sets you back almost as much as for hingeless pages. Is it the color printing, what? Anyone ever ask the publisher and what did they say?

Yes, they are expensive. Personally, I do not care for them. All the bright colors take away from the stamps! Peter |

I agree with Petert4522. I think the pages are so over embellished that they would overpower the stamps mounted on them. Another example of expense not necessarily equalling good design.

I was looking at them to remount my US plate collection, a set just for the commemorative PBs to about 1990 or so to cover what I need would set me back $500 or so. |

I used to use White Ace albums back in the late 90s/early 2000s. When I got back in the hobby a few years ago, the cost of catching up was so cost prohibitive, that I decided to go a different route.
I think White Ace pages are gorgeous. I think the price stems from a few factors:
1. The paper is nice and thick. Not sure of the makeup, but it may be cotton. It's definitely archival grade. 2. Pages are in color and have artwork on them 3. All pages have rounded corners 4. All pages have descriptions
So, in addition to all the people you have on staff to design a stamp album, you also have a graphic artists and a copywriter. Add to that the fact that you have rounded corners, which I am sure costs more to do, and you get a pretty expensive print run.
I though the pages were gorgeous, and I loved the way my stamps looked on the pages, but when I got back into the things, I had a wife, 2 kids and a mortgage. I Just couldn't afford it.

Just had a quick look online and White Ace pages seem to work out at around $1.00 a 60 lb leaf for the pre-printed leaves, which is about 50% more than I pay each for Frank Godden 2 peg album 150 lb blank leaves. So even if I liked the White Ace leaves they are way too pricey for me.

As I mentioned above, I found I could buy Lighthouse hingeless pages for just a bit more. In a way I have to admire Washington Press for maintaining their quality level- but it just makes it too expensive to buy their products in any large quantity. |

I used to use lighthouse hingeless for San Marino and Scott for Vatican City .Seem to get more expensive each year ... Past three year I get a subscription to http://www.stampalbums.com/. Brought a pack of acid free stock card pages , acid free clear page holders and a Vario Grande three ring binder w/ dust cover . So far it works out well. |
