If you use them do you also place identifiers in with the stamps?
Like a small strip under the stamp with Scott number?
Or is there a much easier way to do this?

I use Vario pages and I do like a piece of paper next to the stamp for identification or question marks or ownership even, if I have other's stamps here.

It is good to know what is what.

So far I have not got into making typed labels up but that would make it all look much more readable and professional.

There's a old shareware program called "Stamp Tags" that works well for this purpose. I downloaded a copy long ago, but the website doesn't appear to work anymore. If anyone has access to a copy of the software, I'm sure they'll post a link for you.

Thanks for the Stamp Tags name. Haven't searched yet.

I really am in a mess here and do not have any tags / labels now except ownership labels so I can keep mine separate from others.

Stamps come and go depending on my interests, mostly stay, ha.

I did a Google search for Stamp Tags and this is what I found:

There looks to still be a working download link in that thread posted by PostmasterGS. I just got myself a copy. ;)

I use Vario Pages for pretty much everything. I make labels just on my printer and cut them with a paper-slicer.

I also put in hand-written notes whenever I feel like. Usually to keep track of varieties. I also house everything in Lighthouse Vario-G binders - They are great.

Here are some examples of a few pages:
