Maybe the idea was that if you chewed the Mail Poach tobacco you were 'In the Mail' or guaranteed delivery or something.

A kind of subliminal advertising.

I remember seeing Mail Pouch ads painted on the sides of barns along the interstates back in the 70s. I haven't been on a road trip recently, but I doubt many of those ads are still around, considering the state of most of those barns.

Ok.. maybe I'm just jaded or have inhaled too much Ronsonol today. Look at the baby's hands in Wt1's picture. Could it be a play on "male pouch?" Both can give pleasure??
