Can anyone recommend a good reference book for the bi-colored issues of Denmark? I have a Facit catalog which goes into more depth than Scott (obviously!) but was wondering if there are any basic reference books that dive even further into them, hopefully written in English?..............or at least with lot's of obvious illustrations

A timely post spain_1850 as I have just been reading a great article in the Sept 2013 issue of the Stamp Magazine (www.stampmagazine.co.uk) on them

The article didnt make reference to any particular book but did say "numerous books have been written about them, and the key reference work runs to six volumes and 2,000 pages"

6 volumes?? I can see that! I've looked in on a few websites here and there that touch on the subject. There are some pretty serious collectors out there of these things. I would love to learn a bit about them, just not as a specialized area.

Here is a neat website dealing with the bi-colored series. I use the "translate" feature on Google Chrome, which seems to work pretty good. Will have to dig a bit deeper into it this weekend.

If you go to the Philatelic Union Catalog http://catalog.stamplibrary.org/Inm...ie/opac.aspx and search for denmark bicolors there are several references--a good source would probably be the Scandanavian Collectors Club library. I don't know about borrowing the books however. Since I don't specialize in that area that's the best I can offer.
