I just can't find it. Please forgive me for asking, but this is very annoying. My SG catalog states that for Watermark 7 (multiple A, crowns) and Perf 13 1/2 x 12 1/2, I only have the option of SG 99 (Die II) or SG 99a (Die III). The left stamp has some of the characteristics of a Die I (thin numerals, pearls in crown varying in size). What is the SG # of the left stamp? Thanks.

The small multiple watermark paper was issued in 1930 & was only printed Die II & Die III. There were no Die I printings on that paper.

Pearls varying in size is Die II. Possibly the easiest way to pick Die II is the letter E in pence - the down stroke is slightly extended past the base. Also the ball of the numeral 2 is slightly smaller.

Thanks Balf and Al. I was confused because my SG Commonwealth 2010 Catalog seems to indicate that a 2d Die I has pearls in crown of varying size. Die II says Pearls in crown all same size. Die III doesn't say anything about the pearls, but does say that letters and figures of value are bolder than Die I. But, as you say, the catalog only mentions two possibilities ... Die II and Die III. I also have some Watermark Inverted, but those hold very little value as they are from booklet stamps. I guess it's all in the fine print.
