I only know enough to get me in trouble. My Stanley Gibbons has a significant value increase for the 1924 King George 1 1/2 d if it has "Curved 1 and thin fraction at left". My two other examples seem to have the same thin fraction, but this example has an odd curve to the 1. Is this a SG 77d?

As a comparison, here is another version with a similar thin fraction, but not curved 1. However, the top of the 1 is faulty, and there is also a line joining the S above. Is this a known variety or just an example of overinking? Thanks in advance for your help.

Nice variety.

The curl on the '1' looks nice.

I like these little differences that you can mostly see with the naked eye or a small magifying glass.

I am not sure of the value or catalogue number.

Hi Partime

The varieties on the George V are very complicated, and you would need to find a specialist, or some-one with an Australian Commonwealth Specialist Catalogue , King George V,
Some varieties can mean the difference between a few dollars and several hundred dollars.

Congrats Horamkhet ... you just hit 1000 posts

I'm becoming more interested in the Roos and King George, so I may have to pony up a few dollars and get a book or two. Thanks for looking.

The curved 1 24/R41 is very different to yours.

It's the right hand side of the left large 1 ,A large curve easily seen makes the 1 look heaps skinnier than the right.

Al,

Thanks. As you state correctly, the description is a curved 1 AND a thin fraction. My large number 1 definitely is not curved by any means. Very interesting, though.

Hi Partime,

thanks for the congrats message, I did not even realise that I was near the 1000, somewhere I have a list of books that you can buy on the Australian stamps, so in the next few days I will search for it and scan it and send a copy off to you.
Australian stamps, particularly the George V, and anything predecimal is and interesting area to collect.
