Here is an image of a stamp featuring a portrait of Austrian economist, women's rights activist, journalist and politician Käthe Leichter (1895-1942), designed by Hannes Margreiter (1954- ), combined engraved by Robert Trsek (1959- ) and photogravure, and issued by Austria on August 18, 1995 to commemorate the economist's birth centenary, Scott No. 1684, plus a photo of Käthe Leichter.

Here is an image of a stamp featuring a portrait of Henrietta Szold (1860-1945), a U.S. Jewish Zionist leader, educator and founder of Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America, and depicting the Hadassah Medical Center and a group of school children, designed by Oswald Adler (1912-2005), printed by photogravure, and issued by Israel on December 14, 1960 to commemorate the educator and leader's birth centenary, Scott No. 188, plus an image of a photo of Henrietta Szold in 1940.

I only collect US (so far), but I collect stamps and covers with women on it as well. I love learning all about these amazing and strong women and why they were chosen for stamps.


Dr. Mary Walker is one of my favorites. I just love her story.

The portrait painted by Lucas Cranach of Katharina von Bora was used for the design of the stamp paying tribute to the wife of Martin Luther. She was a nun from a family of nobility and did a major part of the work involved in running the Luther household and business. Her biography is certainly worth looking up. 1999. By the way, the Cranachs were friends of the Luthers.

Laure Moghaizel (1929–1997) was a Lebanese attorney and prominent women's rights advocate. She was awarded with the world-renowned National Order of the Cedar (Commander), a medal in recognition of her many years of social and public service.

Mounira Solh (19 September 1911 – 27 November 2010) was a pioneer advocate for the rights of women and people with disabilities in Lebanon. She was one of the first women in Lebanon and the Middle East to run for parliament. She ran for a seat in the Parliament of Lebanon in 1960, 1964 and 1968. She was also a humanitarian with decades of volunteer and charity work.

Mounira Solh founded Al Amal Institute for the Disabled in 1959, the first center of its kind in Lebanon and the Arab world. She also founded in 1984 the Association of the Parents of Mentally Disabled Children in Lebanon, the first of its kind in Lebanon. [Wikipedia]

Katherine Sheppard (1848–1934) was the most prominent member of the women's suffrage movement in New Zealand and the country's most famous suffragette. She was very active in writing for women's right to vote and lead the campaign for a petition; 30,000 signatures were presented to parliament, and the successful extension of the franchise to women was achieved in 1893. As a result, New Zealand became one of the first countries to establish universal suffrage. stamp of 2008

Louise de Bettignies, created an intelligence network for the British in occupied France, giving the British and American forces valuable information on the invading Germans. She was arrested and died in German captivity in September 1918. She is honored 100 years after the end of the first World War on a new stamp showing a map of the area she covered.
