I have 2 revenue stamps from Grossherzo#8203;gtum Baden. They are for 50 pfennig (blue) and 10 pfennig (yellow). I was able to find a matching image online which features those 2 stamps (along with others in the series) on Wolfgang Morscheck's excellent website:
http://www.stempelpapier.de

(Click on the "Fiskalmarken Stempelmarken" link on the left navigation, search for "Baden" on the page, and click on the corresponding "Weiter" link, which will display the image: http://www.stempelpapier.de/artikel/baden20.jpg

Any information (or referral) as to what time period they are from, as well as their potential worth and relative rarity is much appreciated. (Unfortunately the text that accompanies the images is not legible).

According to Forbin, you have Baden #1 (yellow) and #3 (blue). 1875, with a total of five values in the set.

The blue is listed with a color variety of dark blue (more or less), but the values were the same for both.

In fact, ## 1 and 3 are the lowest CV of the set, by far. Still nice to have.

There should also be a 20pf brown and a 1M green and a 2M red. For what it is worth, Forbin says they should be perf 10.

Thx for that info, Cjd. Apparently Forbin is the definitive reference on revenue stamps. I'm curious what values are listed there (keeping in mind that any information there is 89 years old :) ...I'm guessing it's not worth paying the $10 on-line access fee to find out.

I'm just looking at my collection again after a 50 year hiatus. As a kid I didn't know enough to specialize, so I have lots of stamps from everywhere, every time period, every condition. Wondering how to find out what my collection might be worth. Any ideas?

Forbin was definitive in 1915. Now, not so much. Still, it has its uses.

There is no definitive worldwide revenue catalogue. Barefoot publishes many great catalogues, but even if you bought them all, it wouldn't be encyclopedic. Lots of other specialized catalogues exist, too. German States are handled in Volumes 3 and 4 of Erler, an 18-volume set of German revenue catalogues. (Don't have it.)

Back in 1915, your stamps listed at 0.15F. The others in the set were 1.50F, 2F and 10F. So, using the old values as a rough indicator of rarity at that time, it would make sense that if you only had two, you'd have the two you have, as they must have been quite a bit more common than the other three.

Completed auctions on ebay and bidstart are probably the best current sources for ideas of value.
