Stamps On Stamps

Arrived today... BUT was mailed to me in December!!

Here is an image of a stamp depicting a Philippine stamp of 1854, Magellan's landing, a woman holding the national flag, the Manila post office, and an airplane, engraved and printed by Thomas De La Rue & Co., Ltd., and issued by Philippines on April 25, 1954 as one of a set of six (three of which are airmail) similarly designed stamps commemorating the centenary of Philippine stamps, Scott No. 605.

Stamps of Thurn and Taxis, 1852-1859, designed by German graphic artist Erwin Poell (1930- ), printed by lithography, and issued by Germany on August 28, 1965 to commemorate the 125th anniversary of postage stamps, Scott No. 933, Michel No. 482.

Here are images of the three stamps in a set depicting preliminary drafts of Greenland's first stamps, as designed by Danish artist Harry Nielsen in 1932, but which were never issued, combined engraved by Czeslaw Slania and lithography, and issued by Greenland on October 16, 2001, Scott Nos. 387-89, Facit Nos. 371-73.

I have a small collection of the stamps of German colonies on stamps of the former German colonies. Here are a few items from this collection:


Burundi, Scott # 566, showing a German East Africa 1900 25 pf "yacht" stamp and a Belgian Congo stamp overprinted for occupied German East Africa. Issued 6 Nov 1979.


Souvenir sheet issued the same day, showing a variant of the above stamp, along with similar variants of others in the set showing a penny black and stamps of Burundi.


Papua New Guinea, Scott # 631. The lower right-stamp shows a copy of Germany #49 with a 1892 German New Guinea cancel, thus being what we call a Forerunner (Vorläufer in German).

It also shows a copy of this same souvenir sheet and of the four non-souvenir sheet stamps of the same design, thus in theory showing infinite recursion of stamps on stamps on stamps ....

On the upper-right stamp is found the same kind of recursion, this time with a stamp from Queensland.


Tanzania, Scott #s 668-9. Shows a German East Africa 20 pesa "yacht" stamp to the left, and a German stamp cancelled at the short-lived German post office in Zanzibar. Oh, and a couple of penny blacks.

I love these stamps on stamps. It's like finding a $5 bill in your pocket -- with a $50 wrapped up inside it

I guess its time to give the Mrs. my trousers to sew up the holes in my pockets....

Malaysia 2012 Royal Visit with a stamp-on-stamp of QEII's 1953 coronation stamp.

100 Years of Kedah stamps, 2012.

Sultan Abdul Halim, the first Sultan in Malaysia to be installed as King for twice in his lifetime. This Souvenir Sheet shows the 1971 stamp commemorating his installation, and the 2012 stamp commemorating his 2nd installation.
