Centenary of the first Slovene Postage Stamps The iconic Chainbreaker stamps were commissioned by the postal administration in Ljubljana during the brief existence of the State of Slovenes, Croats, and Serbs. Created by academically trained painter Ivan Vavpotic in late 1918, they were officially issued in early January 1919. Produced in the challenging post–World War I era marked by material shortages, the stamps were printed in both Ljubljana and Vienna. As a result, they appeared on a variety of paper types, in multiple colors, and were perforated using different techniques - making each edition a unique historical artifact. |

In the 1840s, Eretz Israel was a remote and undeveloped part of the Ottoman Empire with no organized transport, trade, or postal links. Overseas mail arrived in Beirut or Alexandria and was carried to local recipients by private messengers. In the mid-19th and early 20th centuries, Eretz Israel became increasingly connected to global mail routes: first through Austrian, French, and Russian steamships that brought regular Sea Mail and foreign post offices; then through the Nairn brothers' Overland Mail service, which cut the Haifa–Baghdad journey from weeks to days; and finally through developing Airmail routes, including a 1932 seaplane link from Cyprus to the Sea of Galilee and onward flights to Baghdad. International Mail from Eretz Israel, issued by Israel on March 28, 2023. The old covers franked with British Iraqi and British Cyprus stamps. |
