Postage Question.

hi all. I have a quick question. if I put 47 cents postage on a letter will it still be mailed?

The 1st class domestic letter rate for the US is 46c for the 1st ounce. As long as it is 1 ounce or less, it will still be mailed even if you over-pay. Of course, it must meet all the other size and "machinable" requirements.

Also, the rate goes up to 49c on January 26, 2014.

Not quite true (at least not yet). The Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) approval is for a one-cent "CPI" (consumer price index or inflation based increase) from 46c to 47c for a first class letter, effective January 26, 2014.

The exigent request to increase the postage rate beyond that to 49c is still pending PRC review and a separate decision on that matter is not expected until on or about 12/22/2013.

As far as I know it is only a penny.
