I just got around to scanning an item I have had in my collection for a few months... it's a Lambretta three wheeler postal vehicle on a 1983 Bangladesh stamp, specimen for approval, imperf proof from the Russian printers.

Stamped "NOT FOR USE" and "PRESERVED IN POSTAL ARCHIVE" and stamped and signed by the Director of stamps for the Bangladesh Post office.

How unusual is it to get things that were supposed to be Preserved in the Postal archive?? Could it be a one off or would a few have been made??

I rather like it as it's a bit out of the ordinary for my collection.

Regards
Gavin

The first time I have ever seen these.

it is unusual that you see archival material in auctions or dealer listings etc.

I am not sure what the different post office entities use as a ruling for these to go into the regular population. Perhaps someone with expertise in this particular field can help (?)

I got it from an older private collector in Bangladesh... I expect he or the person he got it from knew someone on the inside and paid to have it "released" for their collection?

Hi Gavin,

The vehicle is known as an Auto-Rickshaw which is a step up from the older "Cycle Rickshaw" which was is a three wheeler but without an engine.

It's a very common vehicle in India for transportation.

Thanks, yes it is an Auto-Rickshaw and is based on the Italian Lambretta and was probably built by the Indian company A.P.I.

Their are many other based on the Vespa scooter also in India.

This one looks to be a Lambretta as it has the correct from mudguard of the Lambretta style.

Regards
Gavin
