In the late 60's a company out of San Clemente CA known as the '99 Company' was offering 'First Day' coin issuance using a postal authority postmark as proof of day of issuance. The Company produced a special window envelope which displayed the coin, ( obverse & reverse) and a side overlap flap that was sealed with a postage stamp overlapping to seal and then postmarked on the day of coin issuance. This was a forerunner to the certification of now offered by numanistic services. My question relates to FDC covers which reflect both a stamp First Day Cover with a corresponding day of issues for new coinage. (I suspect that I may have to register in the 'Coin Forum' to seek additional information,) but I am curious if there are any 'cover collectors' that might have some knowledge of this short lived 'collectible' item.

The first scan postmark is for the day of issuance of the coin.

The second scan shows a First Day of Issue postmark for the stamp and the coin

They apparently call them PNCs (Postal Numismatic Cover or Postal Numismatic Collectible). Although this article gives focus to Australian issues, it gives some brief background on the company. (The Coin Forum suggests the company folded in the 1980s.) A cross-over or "hybrid" collectible covering both coins and stamps.

Thanks wt1: I have done some investigation of the covers from the philatelist side through the Scott's. I don't have information as to Stamp FDC value, just a value for the stamp in used condition (other than US). In reading the article (I am amazed at your cornucopia of reference material) I appear to have started acquiring these after the Australian Issues which appear to have some significant value (based on original purchase $$'s). Do you know of any web site that deals with 'PNC' collectibles or would I be better to register on the Coin Collector Forum site??

My grandfather & two of my uncles started the 99 Company. I have several different items, as well as a complete set. If you really want more info, my uncle is still alive and would love to share whatever information he has.

Stephanie, I sent an email to you. Information on this type of collectable format is scarce to say the least. I suspect minimal value for my collection but some information would be better than none. If you had an item catalog could you email it to me??

Hello Stephanie
Greetings from Denmark, Europe. In 2013 I wrote an article about John Miles Baker and his pncs (especially the Danish pncs he made: http://norbyhus.dk/artiklermm/pnc/kap1.html
(You can let Google translate the five chapters to get an idea of the Danish ones).

At that time I did try to contact with Mr. Baker and would love if you will put me into contact with him, please? I have send this to you via mail too.

Thanks
Toke (that's a boy's name :-)
