Hi,
Seems like most of my posts concern Scott albums and here is another.

I have (and had) several of the original Scott International Albums - the ones marked "Part I, Part II, III, IV". They seemed to come in two sizes (at least Part II), with an outside the binder thickness being about 3 1/2 or 3 inches at the binding.

When I check the newer International Blue albums - which do not have "Part xyz" markings, they are indicated to be 4 1/2 or 3 7/8 inch at the outer binding.

So, my question is, are we looking at 4 different sizes or ???

Thanks all ..................

I don't know the specific answer, but I measured my four part binder/slipcase Big Blue, and the slipcase is 4" wide with the binder smoothly fitting inside.

I looked at my 1950 edition of Part II bought on ebay and it is housed in a Part II embossed 3 inch binder. While I doubt that this is the original binder (the condition is too good), I don't think the pages would have fit into a smaller binder.

Why is this? I think that even though Part II contains spaces for fewer than half the stamps in Part I, the different categories of stamps within a country (i.e., regular/commems, airmails, postage dues, etc.) are spread out on more pages. Part I also has pages containing more than one country which I don't believe happens in Part II.

I've seen a lot of binders and one thought is that the smaller binders could have been when a partial part was released like 1940-46 or 1950-52... I've noticed that these smaller binders are a slightly darker color.

I guess what I'm trying to find out is if the two sizes of Scotts Blue binders offered today are the same or different sizes as the two that came with the Internationals back in the 40s and 50s.

The two binders offered today are the regular ones and the jumbo ones. They did not have jumbo-sized binders back in the 40's and 50's. If you are trying to keep the look the same, use the "regular" binders. It's hard to recommend one over the other. There may be slight differences in texture and color with old vs new. Take a look at ebay auctions that offer a run of Scott Internationals and you will start to see the differences. I use regular binders and split up parts I to III into two binders each. I have part 4 in a jumbo, part V, VA, etc each in their own regular size binder I was able to fit a part IX, X and XII in a jumbo binder (all three together barely) I use mostly jumbo binders after that and can fit two parts in a single jumbo binder. JKBlue's and Bob's filling spaces blogs explain this stuff in more detail.
