I have read all the messages here and kept my mouth shut.
Now I am going to write my piece, enough is enough.

Please will the original poster change the thread title. It is not a true reflection of the forum as whole and was written, at a guess, when he or she was ....well, bored ! The title does nothing to enhance our reputation. Sorry.

Some of what has been written by others is true, but this is an open forum for all members so we cannot expect that every post will be to our liking.

I have no problem at all with 'newby' posts, new members asking for help and then doing a runner or the general board content.

Some long-time members left it's true, but there are enough of us here to keep the place running as it always has been......and that's definitely NOT BORING !

For my side, I have not been as active as I would have liked, but I have good reasons and my future participation here will always be guaranteed.

So please change the title or lock and hide this thread [Mods]. If we all wrote our thread titles on the back of the mood we were in, the board would have gone bust long ago !

Good on you LB!

The highlight to this thread is bobby131313's 1882 coin image! Beautiful!

As a member of this board since July, 2009 and a Supporter, my opinion of this group is self-evident.
I agree with Londonbus1's post 100%!

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example.
I collect for enjoyment, not investment.

I joined in October 2012, and have only made 22 or 23 comments. I've read this thread and really tried to think of why.

I joined here and the Australian board at the same time. I have not commented on the Australian board in a long time but do lurk there. About the time I think I might post something, the moderators weigh-in on someone else's conversations and I think better of it. That said, a moderator - a good moderator - can go a long way toward fostering positive conversations and "keeping the action moving" and certainly that board has a great deal of activity.

I read this forum probably 3 times per week. I enjoy most of the posts, but don't often comment because I don't have much new to contribute by the time I get to the posts. Another thing is the topical boards, as I collect a couple of topics. There's not a lot of conversation going on there - many people sharing images of their stamps. That's great, but to be honest, it doesn't do much for ME (I'm good for about one page of such images).

All that said, this seems to be a very safe board and an inviting board. I appreciate that. Just my 2 cents.

Faken We used to have a Buy, Sell, Trade,Auction area and sometime this Summer it was closed and everything went to ebay Sales. In my opinion when they did that. SCF went to Hell. It is not near as good of site as it used to be. A lot of the members have left SCF and gone to other Online Stamp Clubs. I was away all summer and when I came back this Fall this is what I came back to. I do not buy on ebay so I am lost as to what I am going to do. I'm looking for other Online Stamp Clubs where Buying, Trading is amongst it's members not open to the whole world. This is still a great site for Learning but it sure is lacking what it used to be.

So I am curious, what kinds of topics and discussions do you enjoy? Or would you like to see more of?

Maybe you and I and everyone else reading this could take the time over the next two or three and post just one intriguing, interesting, different question or comment about the hobby and see where they go. (I bet most would draw some pretty good traffic.)

As I said earlier, I certainly don't have the knowledge or interest to participate in many of the threads here, but I will look at them and learn new things. And I do post the occasional new topic, but they are always pretty specific and draw a minimum number of posts, etc., and I am fine with that.

I think the idea of having a section on the main page for Frequently Asked Questions about Stamps, Collections and Values would be a great idea.

There is a nice auction and sale area Tinman...you must have missed it !
It's not the same as before but there is nothing wrong with it......There are some nice items listed but no USA I'm afraid. If there is anything else you collect I will try to find something. Just holler.

At the moment there are 8 things in there. I looked a day or two ago and there was nothing. Sorry, that's not a healthy auction and sale area IMO.

I did not say it was 'healthy', just that there is a nice sales/auction area in case Tinman missed it.
If anyopne has items to sell or auction off, then put them up.
I will be putting up loads of stuff in the coming weeks as I am disposing of all my Postage stamps and collections.

So come on everyone, we all have something we don't need....don't be lazy ! Make some spare cash.

Londonbus1...sorry for being boring.

The rules at the site state you must have 50 post to be eligible to bid.
If you view the member forum @ the bottom of the page, usually 40 or so online with 300 lurkers...which is eliminating the 300 from buying.
I posted the question why not allow ANYONE to buy?
YES...must have minimum # of post to sell.
Moderator stated...His board, his rules....thats why.

I concur with LondonBus.
Any forum or online community has 'ebbs and flows' but all things consider I often recommend SCF over most of the others.

The fact that many posters are considerate of others and that the quality of the feedback remains high would explain why there are many first time posters asking about their holdings. In my opinion each one is an opportunity for kindness and represents a potential new addition to this great hobby.
I understand why some might feel the need to be snarky with some folks; particularly when the posters seems to trying to play the marketing card (i.e. assigning catchy names to what they believe to be a rare error as opposed to a simple production flaw).

The SCF community is a fluid, dynamic thing; it is the confluence of all of our postings. It is up to all of us to make this a vibrant, productive discussion board. If any of us finds it becoming boring we have the power to change it; simply generate a few new topics.

here we go again - all I see after LB1's carefully considered post is a whole lot of drum banging about the Auction section - Get off your hobby horses people the Forum is so much more then the Auction Section - If that is the prime reason that you are here or lurking here then move on I say
