If you go for garage sales you'll likely see a darkroom for developing and printing with enlarger. Some of the useful items you could use are the print washer, print roller, blotter book, and grain focuser. These items could be obtained for very little cost.

You've raised an interesting point that I never would've thought of. Thanks!

One question though: what is a grain focuser? I even Googled it and read a little bit about them and still didn't quite understand what it does. Is it just a magnifier, or what does it do or have that makes it different from a magnifier? ("Inquiring minds want to know!" )

Thanks in advance,

A grain focuser is used with the enlarger. It is placed on the easel and allows you to get maximum focus by the grain in the film.

ILS: Thanks!

Now, to you or the original poster (or anyone else, for that matter!), how could this be used for philatelic purposes?

Thanks!

If you had a lit surface such as a light sorting box you could use it as a high powered magnifier.

I see. (Excuse the unintended pun.)

Again, great suggestion you had!

Thanks!
