I was going thru a bag of stamps and came across this killer cancel. No doubt about being used on this one. I'd love to see some other examples. Tom

This is from 1894 and I think the ink is still wet from the glob of a cancel. |

Someone in the Jammu & Kashmir post office was determined that this 1868 ½ Anna was not going to be used again. Here is the stamp unadorned at left; the companion 1 Anna stamp is at right. This Jhalawar ¼ Anna was so well cancelled, I had to call in expert advice just to work out what it was. This is the stamp lurking under the postmark: |

Without a doubt stampcrow you get the award for the killer cancel. Can we ask what the stamp is if you know. Tom |

It is a 219. Sent from the Grand Secretary of the Royal Arcanum, J. Y. Bicknell, Buffalo NY to a person in LeRoy, NY. |

I've done a bit of work on this stamp if you look at the original post. I noticed that the black ink has turned to blue. Not sure why. Perhaps one of you know. Tom |

A lot of black inks are actually dark blue or brown base colors. So if it were to thin or lighten with age or cleaning I could see it turning a lighter shade of it's actual color. It's similar to hair dyes. Most 'true black' hair dyes are brown base, and the bluish0tinged ones you see (especially with the goth crowd) are dark blue base.
Any reason why you would clean up the cancellation mark? I find it makes the piece a bit more interesting and leave mine intact, wondering what your viewpoint on it is. |

Found this wonderful killer cancel in a tub of kiloware. My guess is that there is a French Stamp lurking back there somewhere. |

I've been experimenting with acetone, baking soda, and flour on some stamps. I found the Geronimo more to my liking because you can see his face. |

I might try acetone to see if some of the ink will go away to see what you have. Tom |
