Who is the authority on different Canada stamp varieties such as printing, paper, gum, perforations, etc. in terms of a website, study group, publication or anything else?

UNITRADE Catalogue is your best bet. For actual "varieties" I'd suggest Saskatoon Stamp..

BNAPS also has various study groups from which information can be obtained.

Every group has its own special focus. It really depends on what kind of varieties you are talking about. There is so much out there.

I can tell you a lot from my experience with Canadian stamps, but so can many others.

As mentioned, there are many excellent study groups. Saskatoon Stamps is a retail business with retail prices. I have communicated with the owner on a number of occasions, but it was always transaction related as was appropriate.
They do have excellent varieties for sale, and a look through their wares is never a waste. Asking questions is fine, but of course their ultimate goal is to sell, unlike a study group.

I would start with BNAPS first and then check out the study groups based on your interest.

Join BNAPS, but in the meantime, a lot of the collected information is found in their journal, BNA Topics, most of which are available online. If you find yourself snowed in this winter, start here, and be prepared to lose several hours:
