I've been to intercourse Pennsylvania. It's in Amish country. Rolling hills and some nice flea markets. Don't think I bought any stamps there though. *shrug* |

So far, nobody has mentioned Two Mules, Kansas. I don't think it is incorporated any more, but it was for years. Of course there is always Slapout, Oklahoma. That is not to mention Gotebo, Oklahoma. |

Whoever did that survey didn't do their homework. The full name of French Lick, Indiana is French Lick Springs. Famous citizen from French Lick Springs is pro-basketball player Larry Bird. Better choice for a weird place name in Indiana might have been Gnaw Bone (disclosure: I'm a native Hoosier). |

Quote: Whoever did that survey didn't do their homework. The full name of French Lick, Indiana is French Lick Springs. French Lick Springs seems to be a former name. It now seems to be incorporated as just French Lick. It is still used as business names such as "French Lick Springs Hotel" and so forth. Even the post office is listed as "French Lick Post Office". |

Few people probably realize that the town name of Belchertown, Massachusetts was taken from the namesake of Massachusetts Colonial Governor Jonathan Belcher: Quote: The New England town that is Governor Jonathan Belcher's namesake is Belchertown, Massachusetts. Residents need to know that their town was named for a very special colonial governor who played a unique role in the history of the American founding era. He truly lived up to the meaning of his name, "Good cheer" ("Bel" meaning "good", and "cher" meaning "cheer"), for he helped bring liberty, Christianity, and education that would eventually benefit the whole United States. For anyone interested in more history about the name, checkout this link: http://www.belcherfoundation.org/belchertown.htm |

Stampcrow: I believe you posted information on Intercourse, PA. Here's an excerpt from one of several websites about the name: Quote: Much speculation went into the origin of the town's name, but none of the claims have been validated. It's possible the town was named after an old race track on Old Philadelphia Pike called Entercourse, which later evolved into Intercourse. Another theory pertains of the use of language in the early days of the village, in which the term "intercourse" was commonly used to describe fellowship, social interaction and support - the same values on which the town is still based today. See more at: http://www.padutchcountry.com/towns...jx73TM6.dpufInterestingly, I do have an older postmark from that town: |
