I don't know if there are many scots around; but, as 2014 it's likely to be an important year for the proud northern nation, let's start a new thread about Scotland, its people and achievements. I can't see a better begining than with Scotland's National Poet: Robert Burns.

"We didn't fight for glory, not for money, nor for honour. We fought for freedom; which no good man surrenders, but for his life" Robert the Bruce at Bannockburn, 1314. |

Beautiful Scottish Churches. This one, one of the most special, being the one used by the Royal Family when on holiday at Balmoral. You will see this Church often on Christmas Day ! |

Lady Catherine Gordon(1645-1691) was the daughter of George, 2nd Marquess of Huntly, and Anne Campbell (of the Earls of Argyll). In 1659 she married a Polish nobleman named Jan Andrzej Morsztyn (1613-1693). Their granddaughter, Catherine, became mother to the last king of Poland, Stanislaw II August Poniatowski, who was thus a descendent of the Scottish Kings. Stanislaw II August Poniatowski Given that royalty married royalty, there must be heaps of these sorts of connections between any two countries in Europe & The British Isles. These are just two that I've found between Scotland & Poland |

THOMAS COCHRANEBorn 14-Dec-1875 in Annsfield - Lanarkshire, Scotland. In 1817 he was contracted by the Chilean government to organise their Navy. While in charge of the Chilean Navy, Cochrane also contributed to Peruvian independence. In fact, in 1820 a naval expeditionary force was organised by the government of Chile whose target was to support the independence of Peru from Spanish rule and extinguish the Spanish presence in that region. |

Wonderful idea for a thread! I (of Scots-Irish descent) offer a modern Scot, David Tennant (née McDonald) as the Tenth Doctor, received from Scotland (thanks again stampgal!): |
