Hi Everyone, I was looking around for "theresienstadt" stamp and I come across this subject.... I see that this thread is five pages long! Also, this thread started back in February! I have enjoyed looking at all the stamps, some being somber, sad... I am a huge collector of stamps by "theme" but I have not thought to collect 'barbed wire' but now I am going to. Thought I would reply and hope to see more stamps in this category! Sue SueStamps |

Again a flower and barbed wire. This stamp has already appeared on page one but the cancellation and the rose on the FDC also fit well to the subject, the 50th anniversary of the end of concentration camps in Poland. (Hi Sue, glad to see your interest in this subject. Let me know if you would like any of them yourself. K.) |

Here is an image of a stamp entitled "Liberté," depicting a broken chain, flowers, a watch tower and a barbed wire fence, designed and combined engraved by Claude Jumelet and photogravure, and issued by Monaco on May 8, 1995 as a EUROPA stamp commemorating the liberation of the Nazi concentration camps, Scott No. 1945. - nethryk |

Hello, Nethryk, The Monaco stamp has a very fitting design, because it is 70 years ago today that the Auschwitz concentration camp was liberated by allied forces (in this case the Russians). Many who were not able to leave the camp when the Nazis deserted it, died despite the help brought by the Russians. The FDC shows the memorial there and the red triangular symbol for political prisoner. Most at Auschwitz had the Yellow Star of David. "Honor the dead, may the Living remember" (Germany east, 1982, design Hans Detlefsen) |

Quote: The tragedy of farmland barbed wire is that cattle and sheep usually learn not to go near it. Wild animals rarely learn to recognize the danger |
