This letter contained just a Christmas card.
I tried to read the internet pages of Magyar Posta, but for me it is
only "Hungarian". Can anybody give an idea how much was the missing amount in forints?
Fortunately I was spared to pay the 34 cents.
Thank you all!

From what I gather the European priority rate for standard size envelope, 114x162 mm is 210 HUF (at least it was in 2007). Your piece has two stamps 110 ft and 85 ft plus the 105 ft for 300 ft total? Don't understand that.

Using exchange rates at the time .34 ct Euro is about 101 ft, so say 100 ft.

About Christmas 2013 on www.posta.hu:

Quote:
As is customary for the festive season, Magyar Posta is celebrating Christmas with a regular stamp issue. Stamps with a face value of HUF 85 (for domestic picture postcards), HUF 110 (for domestic priority picture postcards or non-priority standard letters) and HUF 140 (for domestic priority standard letters) are being released to send the season's greetings by post. The stamps are available as self-adhesive individually die-cut stamps in sheets of 50 stamps and in miniature sheets of 5 stamps. The motifs of the stamp designs are pieces of traditional iced ginger bread. We recommend a Christmas postcard set consisting of a miniature sheet of five HUF 85 stamps together with five festive picture postcards which are also decorated with ginger bread motifs. The products will be available dependent on stocks at large post offices and Filaposta in Hungary from 5 November, but may also be purchased from Magyar Posta's online store.

Thank you HungaryForStamps!
Maybe together we found ourselves a bit closer to a solution. The rate of 2007 (I found it, too) is probably not valid any more due to the devaluation of the forint.
The sender used, I think, only the 2 special stamps of 85 and 110 Ft.
The label of 105 Ft. was printed 1 day after the cancels of the special stamps.
So the 34 cts. are the postage due of 105 Ft. and the real rate is 300 Ft.
Can you agree?

I don't think devaluation affected postal rates, but apparently there were rate increases, for example in 2011, the rate increased by 4.8%.

However, I think you are probably right about the 105 ft being the postage due of .34 ct. That would make the current priority letter rate to Europe 300 ft.

Just to confirm, here is a PDF with current postal rates for Hungary:
http://elsobbsegilevel.hu/static/in...EN_08_01.pdf

And here is the relevant table, where 300 ft is required for priority "Other up to 20g" (other than standard letter). The 195 ft paid is the domestic rate, hence a reasonable explanation for the mistake.
