In the meantime... (IMHO) I'd doubt (either) would accept only a single
item on consignment, even one with this potential value, nor an item as
unique as a 389 with only one cert...

Not true. Virtually ANY auction house will accept a single item if it will bring over a minimum amount. When we ran auctions, it was $1,000. or more. My guess is Regency might be $1,500. range and Siegel about the same. I have already consigned just a few items to Siegel but because they were all good items, there was no problem. Full disclosure however, is that I have a long history with that firm, going back to c.1971 when they sold my first exhibit collection of the 2c 1863-68 stamp.

Looks like it went for $6750 at the Regency Auction.

The listing on SAN showed that the lot "Closed" and that the bid level at close was $6750. But since that was the start bid the posted result does not actually say if it sold for that or not. Regency does not distinguish between solds and unsolds by posting results this way (i.e. final bid level), so one might get the impression that everything that wasn't withdrawn had sold.

I don't think so.

Regency is all about sizzle.

If you're logged in to SAN, you should see a button labeled "Realizations" along the top of the page for the auction ( http://stampauctionnetwork.com/RS/RS109.cfm ). Lot 1161 is not included in the list, which indicates that it was not sold.

It's also currently listed on their site as available for purchase at the $6,750 opening bid (plus 20% buyers' premium, of course). It's the second item from the bottom of the page here: http://www.regencystamps.com/Catego...sues-15.html

Your stamp appears to be a perf 10 rather than a perf 12.

Looks like a Perf 10 Rotary Press Type I, #456 or #493.

Hi all,

It took me a long time to do something with my #389. Currently it is in Siegel Auction for upcoming sale (July 25th-26th) lot 551. Feel free and bid like no tomorrow

I will post here final price after the sale ends. I think this is a nice way to close this topic for my stamp. We discussed it here a lot. Thank you all again

Hello Jingi,

thank you very much for giving us this update. I didn't know your thread here, but I read it all now and would like to say congratulations! A great find, this is something most SCF member probably dream about. I looked at Siegel and think it looks great to see a stamp there about which was talked here before.

As I am also from Europe may I ask you a question about sending the stamp? I also would like to send some of my stamps for certification, but just don't do it because of the reasons you also mentioned at the beginning: what if the letter is lost "over the ocean"? I asked several auctions houses in Germany and FEDEX directly about that topic, and at the end I had to accept that there is no insurance for any stamp not being certified (or sold) yet. You just could not prove that this was a genuine stamp in that letter.

I guess that FEDEX would still be the best choice, so:
- did you just "accept" that the stamp is sent without insurance, and did you choose the FEDEX?
- which letter format or description of the content did you choose ? Was there customs duty before the certificate or after the certificate you had to pay? Of course you don't have to answer this question or can also answer this with private message :)

I was thinking about your stamp and this thread just yesterday. We have a couple of Scott #613 claims active in another thread. Your stamp is proof that there are treasures out there.
Thanks for keeping us posted. Good luck on the sale.

Hi stamperix,

It was my dream from very beginning to see my stamp on Siegel Auction. Their Power Search helps me a lot and I also learned a lot. My dream come true and I have there 389 and big old Schaubek album (lot 860).
I was so nervous when my stamps were traveling around the world for certification. There is no warranty it will go there and back harmless. You have to believe that FEDEX just do his job :-)
Answers:
Yes, I sent it via FEDEX without extra insurance because without certificate it is just nice piece of color paper, isn't it?
You can play with insurance on the way back in case of positive certificate.

I used letter format A5, bubble envelope stiffed with card board on both sides like sandwich. Inside were two stamps each in piece of writing foil (Schreibfolien). I don't know correct word but Google shown me correct thing when I tried German word :-)
Specification of content was just some documents. I did no payment for custom duty or such things - my stamp there/my stamp back. What I should pay for?
