Hi all,

Need your help trying to figure this out... I apparently am worthless at finding errors lol! I have a stamp that is labeled as an 89iv, which is the "hairlines" variety but I just don't know what I am looking for. Can someone tell me what I should be looking for? Here's a high res scan:

Thanks!
Dan

Hairlines have nothing to do with the hair of the king on the design. They are lines that usually run accross the stamp and visible on the margins. See page 3 of this post for a cool example https://goscf.com/t/35879&whichpage=3 There are traces of hairlines on your stamp.....very small on the left margin. Look at the5th perforation hole on the left counting from the bottom.....there are two small lines. I am uncertain if this would qualify the stamp as a 89iv though. It is a beautiful stamp hairlines or not !

I see one possible hairline in the left margin.

There are multiple hairlines in the right margin just right of the right frame line, plus one near the middle of the 6th perf from the bottom.

I have not seen any other examples of this particular stamp with this variety, so am uncertain that these are the 'expected' hairlines.

I have a number of these used with hairlines. If I find time, I will scan one for you.
Your stamp (as noted) may have a few tiny hairlines, but not enough to qualify as 89iv IMO, though others may disagree.

The hairlines can be quite dramatic, so it is really a matter of degree.

BTW: how did you embed such a hi-res scan? Is it just a link to a webpage?

Hey guys! Thank you very much and it confirms what I suspected... while I do have to laugh at myself for initially thinking it was something to do with his actual hairline, I did realize after it was probably hairlines in the margins and I started to suspect that perhaps it was the small bits of ink that you have all pointed out. So thank you guys for confirming that, at least now I can at least I can put my mind at ease as to what I was supposed to be looking at.

3Dadeo my friend! I upload photos to my personal blog website and then I just embed them using the img commands on the forum.
