Quote: thank you so much for that reference. He did say that he was not an expert on forgeries. Everything I looked at have given me the impression that these are not forgeries. I am so excited to go through all his stuff he left us. I will be dependent on your folks opinion and expertise. Grayola Guess not |

Like I said earlier in a previous post take the stamps off the ebay auction let APS look at them. Then based on that information put them up again on ebay. Yes you'll have to pay for it. Good luck and keep us posted. Tom |

Quote: I took them in to a local stamp dealer I have built a friendship with by going to most of his shows for the last three months. He is who told me yesterday that these are the real deal....he also told me to get a good appraisal done, he knew someone for two hundred dollars that was excellent at his work. Speaking from experience, when we have something we want to be "the real deal" we sometimes hear what we want to hear. Gregorin only wanted to hear good news in this thread and rejected everything else. It was probably the same with his dealer. |

This threads stands in stark comparison to the 'A Find Of A Lifetime' where the fellow took the route of having his find authenticated. Two distinctly different approaches, two distinctly different end results in terms of feedback. don |

Quote: You've become the equivalent of someone that walks into a room, blows a big fart, leaves and lets everyone wallow in the smell. LMAO stallzer, good stuff. I rarely respond to these "look what I found" or "how much is this worth" posts. Most just want to milk you for information and have no interest whatsoever in stamp collecting except for how much is it worthThen you get characters like this who storm off when they don't like the free advice they get here. Why bother with them? |

So, if anyone is still following this somewhat contentious thread, my question is:
What did the original poster want or expect from the start? It seemed that his opinion was fixed and he had a plan. Why would someone even bother coming on here to ask advice and opinions.
If he was trying to be dishonest in his listing, why would he bring attention to himself on a collectors' forum?
If he was naive and was uncertain what he had, yet was interested enough to post (he did say he was excited about finding this item among this grandfather's collection), why wouldn't he accept the opinions and advice with a little more gratitude?
Is there a therapist/psychologist among us?
It's just a curiosity to me.

SDtom, thanks for the advice, I will do just that. Every single post that referred me to information I researched. I will keep you posted, as you seem to one of the few here that have posted with open mind. I do this stuff in my spare time, but It is relaxing for me after a hard days work to put these in sets and organize them into collections. There a bunch of others that I have that are close to eight and nine hundred dollars. I just think I might post one and see where somebody can come up with it as being a fake. |

You obviously have not read the whole thread, I have thanked everyone for their advice as long as they were not being mean spirited. You must be the type that will read a line from a book and then tell your friends, Hey I read this book and......... |

Stay tuned, I have some more shockers for all you, with as many things he has that are authentic and as many things I have found already, I dont think he would have a fake among him. See I did not need to come to you folks who so genuinely gave me good advice because I did not need it, but I will show you some more duzzies..... |

Quote: I don't think he would have a fake among him. Grayola, I sincerely hope so. My stamp collection was started by Great-Grandma, then carried onto Grandma, then onto me (skipped a generation ... their loss). When I started looking into the "higher valued items", I was also intrigued. But then reality hit as I quickly discovered two things: (1) Fakes and Counterfeits were abundant even in the early 1900's when my relatives started collecting, and (2) Value varies greatly depending on stamp quality and has NOTHING to do with Catalog Values I've considered just creating a "Fakes" collection, as I have so many of them. I sincerely hope that some of your other future postings will "Wow" us. |
