Buy a few years old SCott and you will save massive amounts. In regard to the Unitrade catalog, I am just taking my first baby steps into Canadian stamps so the question....does that utilize the Scott numbering sequence or its own proprietary system? I don't seem to see Unitrade numbers quoted on ebay, for instance. I will hunt down a Unitrade copy if it is indispensible for identification purposes, any other essential features of that catalog? Thanks. John |

Hi John Svensson...Darnell Stamps of Canada catalogue does not use the Scott numbering system, they have said they don't to pay Scott usage fees for the stamp numbering...Obviously Unitrade does. |

Nothing beats Unitrade now. I understand some additional varieties will be added for the Royal Military College, Krieghoff and others. But it is absurd to think every colour shift or perf shift or colour blobs should be listed - imagine the size of the catalogue and the expense! |

My most up to date Unitrade Canada catalog is from 2012 which I got new from them at a stamp show for $15.00 last year since these were what they had on special along with a new 2011 for $5.00 which I also got from them. I can't resist trying to collect as well as use their catalogs from different years starting from 2006 when Robin Harris took over being editor. |

Dont get me wrong..Unitrade is THEE finest stamp catalogue. |

wert old buddy , I have to agree with BC in that there has to be a limit what can be included in a stamp catalogue, even a specific country specialized such as Unitrade. Otherwise were going to have catalogues the size of phone books. Heh wait a minute, we already have those. Maybe you and some of the other flyspeckers should get together and publish your own catalogue. |

Quite a many country-specific catalogues are being published in two flavours. For example both of the major Finnish catalogues have a release cycle where 'flyspecker phonebooks' get published every 3-4 years, and in between they release much thinner regular catalogues annually. This approach keeps everyone pretty happy. |

If one wants to get even more specialized than the specialized catalog one has to go to specialized study books and articles that get into further detail on an issue. The Unitrade Canada catalog illustrates these books in the section that relates to them. BTW, I collect the different issues of the Unitrade Canada catalog since the 2006 issue which was the first one by Robin Harris. The catalog is a great work which I find inspiring. |

I prefer Unitrade over other publications. It is specific to the country they are experts in. Most others try to cover the world. They can be jacks of all trades but masters of none.
BTW, I go back to 2008 with my unitrades but have others from the 80's and 70's. When was the last time there was a big jump in values in the Unitrade? Not in the ones I own. |
