Hi..I found an old "Darnell Stamps of Canada" catalogue from 1994...I realize Unitrade is the preferred catalogue for stamp collectors in Canada...BUT, they could be more and more detailed to make it a FANTASTIC source of information...Look at the comparisons between this Darnell and Unitrade catalogue.

.....................................................................

KING GEORGE "ARCH/LEAF" COILS
- Darnell # 223a "narrow 1"
Value in 1994
$50.00 New N/H
$35.00 New hinged
$25.00 Used
Unitrade equivalent Scott #179
No indication of "narrow 1"

....................................................................

ROYAL MILITARY COLLEGE CENTENARY
-Darnell #754c "hole in cornice" and "open window"
Unitrade equivalent Scott #693
No indication of "hole in cornice" or "open window"

....................................................................

HIGH VALUE NATIONAL PARK DEFINITIVES
-Darnell #844d "shifted impression"
Darnell price in 1994 was $200.00 for new N/H.
Unitrade equivalent is Scott #726
No indication of "shifted impression"

....................................................................

There are many, many more examples of Unitrade's right not to input massive amount of well deserved information for stamp collectors....Just wondering what your thoughts are on this thread..??..Thanks.

Unitrade meets all my requirements - and as I use it frequently I am very impressed with the quality of manufacture and assembly. It's built TOUGH!

I agree with CanadaStamp in that you can't beat Unitrade catalogues.
It is one of the best country specific specialized catalogues
around in every respect.

I still use the 2006 edition which I believe was the first
one published in the spiral bound format and first to be edited
by Robin Harris.
If I'm wrong about this please correct me since my memory
isnt what it used to be, according to the wife anyway.

I have a 1997 Darnell which at the time was better than
the Unitrade catalogues at that time. (again my opinion)

That Darnell has good a section on EFO's , the kind of stuff
I know Wert really likes.

If you really want to get wild get hold of one of Bileski's catalogs. Loaded with paper varieties, tagging and printing errors. It might be tough to come by.
Can't find my copy right now haven't used it in years.

I like Holmes a lot of good research info in them. Mine is copy righted 1943 printed Dec. 1944, Sec. Printing 1945.

I also found my Bileski Catalogs, The Canada Basic Catalog Fourth edition 1969 and Canadian Postage Stamps 1953-1974 signed first edition copy right 1975. This is the one that has tagging errors and varieties and differences in paper fluorescence. Also has printing flaws.

Lithograving - the only real change I would suggest for UNITRADE is that they either insert or provide subject / age marking tabs. I buy and insert my own but after even only a few uses they go flat on me. The BOB section needs tabs especially......and the order seems to be both changing and still ............odd in some ways.

Michael Milos is a Canadian stamp specialist expert philatelist who has authored a series of Canadian stamp handbooks. That is his website and he wrote those articles comparing the two catalogs.

There has been a whole fuss over # 705iv "Trudeau Fuddle Duddle" private overprint listing in the Unitrade Canada catalog which has been imitated in different ways.
