I was checking the used Canadian stamps listings on ebay tonight, in the "recently listed" order, and found over ten listings from the same seller for lots each containing Great Britain's famous "Penny Black", two pence blue and one penny red (three stamps). Almost all are four-margin clean-looking copies. It's a remarkable accumulation, even though they are not all that rare, and a great opportunity for anyone looking for a copy of the world's first postage stamp - no matter what country you collect.

Trying to remember-but I dont think the two pence blue is GB number 2. It has the white lines added. The original does not. |

You are correct in that the #2 does not have the White lines. Also, one might want to google the seller as they were brought up elsewhere for very shady dealings. I would be very careful purchasing from this seller. |

Apologies if I have used incorrect numbers for these items - a quick look by a not serious GB collector. I did a web search as suggested and there are serious allegations on another forum (to which I do not belong) about tampering by this seller, to the point where the forum has issued a warning to its members. Is it appropriate to repeat that here, and if so how should it be done? Fascinating reading, actually, to see how some forum members identified allegedly doctored stamps. And it perhaps explains why these stamp lots were offered in the Canada section but not the GB section on ebay - where they might have drawn a more critical assessment. |

I purposely did not provide a link only because I don't think a link to to another Stamp forum here is appropriate. The research that was done on this seller was thorough and very well done. Simply google the sellers handle as I mentioned earlier and all the info is there. |

Very interesting reading indeed! And some of the stamps currently on offer by this seller are extremely clean, so it makes you wonder. But why all the hostility on that forum? |

Serious collectors do not take things like altered material lightly. When you pay top dollar for a piece only to find out it's not what you paid for, you'd be a tad upset also. |

I wasn't referring to that thread specifically. Several other threads I read seemed to be a bit hostile to newcomers who didn't post correctly. Also posters there seem to enjoy making fun of anything they deemed out of their collecting interest. Anyway, it's much friendlier here. |

Another batch of similar listings of these British classics on ebay today in Canadian stamps. Where are they all coming from? |

Although I am Australian & try hard to "buy Australian", I am a refugee from that forum for exactly the reasons mentioned. This forum is FAR friendlier! |
