I've read over and over again what a bad idea it is to mount stamps on both sides of a page, because you don't want stamps and/or mounts touching each other.

What if you use sheet protectors and just slide 2 pages back to back into one? Other than personal aesthetics, is there any reason anyone could think of why this would we a bad idea.

The other option would be to go with this instead of a binder:

http://www.amazon.com/Itoya-Profoli...p/B003H71EJO

Itoya 90 page (180 pocket) art portfolio. It lies completely flat, pages won't rip at the ring. It doesn't hold as much as a binder does, but I think it would be a cool way to collect your stamps if your collection didn't involve too many countries.

I think I may buy one just to try it out.

I assume when you say "mount stamps" you mean with hinges; if so, I feel archival sheet protectors designed for stamp albums are suited well for this-both for protection and aesthetics. If you mean mounting stamps that are inside mounts such as Scott or Showguard type mounts, I would still use a sheet protector to protect the mounts on one page from getting caught into a mounts on a facing page causing possible damage as well as aesthetics. Other than that mechanical problem, if the mounts are archival I am not aware of a problem with two mounts touching each other but I would refrain from doing so.

I would not use anything with plastic in it, I prefer using glassine interleaves to protect my stamps that are in albums . These are not the clear interleaves that become fragile over time and pull out where the holes are punched. These are made by G&K and sold by SUBWAY STAMPS for about $12.00 per 100.

Hi,
For my albums, I use the glassine interleaves too. They work quite well, and as floortrader indicated, they run about $12 per 100.

These are truly musuem quality and can be found at many camera shops. If you want a lot of pages they have bulk pricing on 500 sheets.
