The 150th Anniversary of the U.S. Petroleum Industry occurred in 2009.
However, unlike the 100th anniversary, no U.S. stamp was approved
for it even though requests were made for it.
Due to this, a different plan of action was taken.
1) A request for a special commemorative cancel was made and approved.
2) A vanity stamp such as from photo stamps was put together instead.
3) A cover was put together with a commemorative cachet.
These three things were combined together into a cover shown
below marking the 150th anniversary of the U.S. petroleum industry.
