I think I just spent over $300.00 on stamps online today and now I am wondering how I am going to pay for them. Sometimes I just get caught up in the moment and I buy something before thinking about it. I guess impulsive buying is my weakness, especially regarding stamps. Do you?

Today I am not feeling serious, so my answer is a choice:
Depending on the sellers: Cash, money transfer, check, paypal.
Good luck!

That is the American way. At least you have a couple weeks before the credit card reality statement arrives. HaHa!

Budget man. Game designers say that restriction breeds creativity and that might apply to the hobby. Limiting yourself might open up other avenues that weren't apparent before.

Oh yeh, there have been many times when I was relieved that I got out bid on an auction lot.

I'm pretty good about staying within the budget allowed for stamps.

I understand the word "overspending".

I understand the word "stamps".

What means "overspending on stamps"?

Once upon a time, I got caught-up in wanting to know how much higher the other bidder had bid and, instead of adding the item to a 'watch list' and waiting patiently, I found their upper limit by clicking on 'bid' until I had outbid them. Duh. That is *so* not gonna happen again.

Cheers,

/s/ ikeyPikey

Yes, not only relieved to be outbid like stampcrow, but also getting an item and wishing I had been outbid.

I do stay away from bidding wars now. There will usually be another chance. I've seen buyers get so carried away with winning that an identical item is sitting there with a cheaper "buy it now" price.

I just don't do auctions. I find straight sales for anything I buy online. I can afford to spend whatever I decide to buy so I just don't worry about it.

I like to shop around!

The stamps have to be at a great price or I am not in.

As this is the beginning of the stamping season for us it also means no income no buying stamps.

My wife looks at everything I buy, paypal, visa history, direct deposits.

If I can not prove the stamps were a great buy...........My wife has a very good eye for stamp prices these days.

I shop around also. If I cant find a good price, I dont buy it. Wait a week or so and try again, you will eventually find what your looking for at the price you want to pay.

Hi,
While I don't "overspend" (in my view), I do know that there are times that I get on a roll while viewing ebay and buy whatever crosses my mind at the time. The only time when I throw caution to the winds is when there is something out there I just have to have. Thankfully there are few of those "must haves" left on my agenda.

That being said, I do caution folks by saying, if you haven't got the "free money" available, don't buy it.

Though I don't tend to overspend on ebay, I have gone a little crazy at stamp shows

I'm with you Dianne! Somehow I always end up spending more when I'm face-to-face with a human. Having a charming dealer tell me more about my purchase makes me more likely to buy. Also most stamps are so much more beautiful in person. I feel the impulse to get what I want right when I see it rather than taking more time to consider my budget. I probably should go with only cash rather than my checkbook!

Online I'm much more logical. Everything initially goes on the Watch List then I go through everything and decide want I REALLY want and make a first cut. Then I decide what I can realistically afford and make my selections from there. I still sometimes exceed my intended spending but I also sometimes spend less. I admit I am over budget more often than under budget but not by a lot.

(Edited to remove redundant sentence.)
