My problem is that some of the stuff that I collect is rather tough to find (24c 1861s on cover) and rarely comes up for auction. When something comes up for sale, it's either buy it or perhaps never get another chance.

I'm still slightly bothered that I didn't bid TOTALLY stupid money on a cover to Africa that came up a few years back....

billw2, Greetings:

It really *is* true that we regret more the things we did not do ...

When I think of all of the countries I have been thru in the past 20 years, and I did not send myself a single postcard :(

Cheers,

/s/ ikeyPikey

Sometimes you feel that you need to get certain item because you wont be able to see it again.Recently I am focusing on covers and postal history and every week I see new items on ebay and I feel that I cant let it go. Yea I am overspending and its like an addiction for me.

Our stamp collections remain a collection even if we stop buying; but if we stop buying are we still collectors? ļ

Great point- I basically walked away for almost a year and even went as far as sweeping most my desk goodies into a shoe box. Basically felt like I had a collection but wasn't a collector. Receiving a new unitrade catalog for christmas re sparked those dormant neurons . 3 pages on the watch list and several new acquisitions on the desk and voila I feel like a collector again.
However I am really limiting my urges even though I am missing out on a few great deals .
I am working on having the medical association recognize SADD as new legit problem. STAMP ATTENTION DEFICIT DISORDER is a chemical inbalance that makes one spontaneously purchase these little pieces of paper with no main collecting discipline. Unfortunaly medication is only avaiable at auctions end or a few weeks after stamp shows in the form of the credit card statements.

I think that if we stop collecting we're not collectors anymore. I think the hobby has to be active.
