Not my area, but the auction below has around 50 civil war covers at lots 1133-1185.

I don't get a commission, by the way!

Regards.

Is it just me or do they not show images of the items up for auction ? I got tired of waiting on their slow site to venture any further into it.

Here are a few from Hudson, New York.
Hard to see in the first one, but in the star is an embossing of George Washington, and just below that is the embossed corner card of the father of the addressee who is serving in the Union Army.

Stallzer

The printed catalogue has a number of illustrations, but most lots aren't illustrated. I think the website may have some illustrations, but not, I suspect, of these covers. I'm sure they'd give further details by email (but probably not photos). I think this is an old-fashioned, family-type business, rather than a high-tech one. I've always had good dealings with them, but I don't buy individual items.

The listing is clunky. I've now learned to make a cup of coffee while it downloads, rather than prodding irritably at the screen.

A couple from the west coast, the first from way up the coast at Arcata, Cal in Humboldt county, and the second is a little worse for wear, but has a first year manuscript Little Lake,Cal in Mendocino county. ( Mar 1 1861-Apr 7 1874 when name was changed to Willits ). Both usages are scarce from logging towns.

I just LOVE the Magnus covers and how much they "pop" compared to most. Absolutely GORGEOUS covers!
