Found this today at the Nashua, NH show.

A patriotic cover sent on October 8, 1861 from East Lansing, N. Y.
(manuscript postmark) to:

Mr. Doctor Tarbell
Quartermaster Sergt.
Alexandria Virg.
32nd Ridgment[sic] N. Y. V. I.

It has Sc. 65 Washington with the Postmaster's pen cancellation,

and docketing on the back: (written by Doctor Tarbell)

T. B. Tarbell to be
preserved till close of War
D. T.

The slogan beneath the patriotic eagle cachet is:

Child of the Sun! to thee it is given
to guard the Banner of the Free!

Doctor Tarbell (his given name) was captured and
spent time in a Confederate prison. After the war
he married, finished college, raised a family, and
became a successful businessman.

t360, here you go-- only have a couple of these, and can you spot the potential issue with the 2nd one? I'll try to get a higher res image uploaded from photobucket

The last one is non-descript from the front, but has the blue and red piping on the reverse.

Thanks for all of the images you've been posting-- very cool and it's making a lot of us very jealous!

You might want to look at the post I made tonight about my neat finding on Captain Maffit on the 1862 cover topic...thanks, Ray

t360, here is a image from photobucket:

The date appears to be 1861, but that can not be correct as the stamp wasn't issued until August '61. When you magnify, does it look more like 1863 to you?? Would be a big help for me if I can get the date correct-- Thanks! Ray

Ray, nice covers!

The Lexington, KY postmark looks like 1864 to me.

(another cover from the Nashua show)

This cover was sent from Albany, N.Y. on July 1, 1861 to William Chamberlain
in Cameron Mills, Steuben County, N.Y.

In August 1861, William Chamberlain enlisted in Company B of the 86th
New York Infantry, the "Steuben Rangers,"

and fought in the Second Battle of Bull Run in August 1862.

The cachet has a patriotic slogan:

For right is right, since God is God,
And right the day must win,
To doubt, would be disloyalty,
To falter, would be to sin.

I won this Civil War patriotic cover in an online auction recently.

The Soldier's Dream of Home

It was sent from on May 10 (likely 1863) from Cincinnati, Ohio
to Miss Hulda Miller, Sharonville, Hamilton County, Ohio.

It was franked with a Sc. #65 3c Washington which received
a blue killer bar cancel.

The vignette features a soldier on the battlefield dreaming of home.

The verse reads:

"At the dead of night a sweet vision I saw,
and thrice e'er the morning I dreamt it again.
But sorrow return'd with the dawning of morn,
And the voice in my dreaming ear melted away."

Great thread. Thanks for reviving it. As a collector of CSA, I love these patriotic covers from the Civil War.
If you can, get a hold of the BNA Topics #527 Vol 68 No.2, their second quarter edition for 2011, there's a wonderful article on US Civil War patriotic covers used in Canada.
Topics is the journal of the BNAPS, the British North America Philatelic Society. Most are available on line on their website, but unfortunately this issue hasn't been uploaded yet, that I can see anyway.

Lt. General Winfred Scott is pictured on this patriotic cover sent from Old Point Comfort, Virginia.

The addressee, Henry H. Houghton of Bolton Massachusetts, is from a prominent New England family.
His father was Capt. Cephus Houghton. In 1863, Henry married Miss Lydia Andrews.

Very nice covers I specially like the one Ray.Mac posted with the Jan.15 cancel on it. It appears that one was sent anywhere from 110-112 yrs to the date before I was born. I would so love to find some old covers like this with Jan.15 as the postmark maybe even start a collection of Jan 15 postmarks just cover my birthday.
